About

A worshipping community, following the heart of Jesus.

The Newton Park Methodist Church has been around for nearly 90 years. From it’s birth in the early 1930’s it quickly became a place of worship for families. As Newton Park grew into a vibrant suburb, so did the church – at one point having a Sunday School of about 1000 children.

And then as Newton Park started becoming more urban, with hints of being PE’s new ‘downtown’, and residences once filled with young families turned into accommodation for small businesses – the Newton Park Methodist Church saw it’s own demographics begin to change.

Yet through all the change, we found three words which seem to have been true of us for almost a century. Engaged. Connected. Generous.

We are a community who care deeply about mission work – we want to engage our community. We recognise that this is central to the call of Christ.

We also believe in the importance of loving, authentic relationships – being connected. When Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was, HIs reply was: Love the Lord your God; and love your neighbour. We aren’t always wildly successful at this, but we know it matters – and that it too is central to the call of Christ.

We also believe at the centre of God’s message to the world is ‘generosity‘. God so loved, that He gave. This generosity is not only extended in material goods and money, but also in our ‘orthodoxy’; in our theology. Jesus was radical in His acceptance of others; of people who were different, outside of society’s usual expectations. We are always learning to do this better – but we believe deeply that ‘all are welcome in this place’.

If you’re ever in town – we hope you’ll pop in to visit us.
